World-Renowned Zukerman Trio Will Captivate Audiences of Chamber Music Sedona

On Sunday, February 4, 2018, Chamber Music Sedona will present one of the highlights of its 35th season: a special concert by the widely acclaimed Zukerman Trio. The concert will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Sedona Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of Sedona Red Rock High School. Consisting of violinist Pinchas Zukerman, cellist Amanda Forsyth and pianist Angela Cheng, the Zukerman Trio has been touring the world since its formation in 2013, mesmerizing audiences and critics alike at leading venues and festivals.
Praised for his remarkable skill on both the violin and the viola, Pinchas Zukerman’s illustrious career has spanned several decades. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Zukerman moved to New York City in 1962, when he was only 13 years old. He attended The Juilliard School and studied under legendary violin instructor Ivan Galamian. As a musician, Zukerman is renowned for his impeccable technique and ability to add emotional depth to his extensive repertoire, which includes chamber music and Classical, Baroque and Romantic concertos. He is also a respected conductor who has led some the world’s most famed ensembles. As a pedagogue, Zukerman is known for inspiring the next generation of musicians with his passion and innovative approach to musical education. He is the chair of the Pinchas Zukerman Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music, where he has introduced distance-learning technology to arts education. Throughout his career, he has received numerous prestigious awards and has occupied coveted leadership positions at institutions around the world. For instance, he has served as Principal Guest Conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Artist-in-Association with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada.
In 2011, Zukerman began playing with cellist Amanda Forsyth and pianist Angela Cheng, and after receiving numerous invitations to perform at venues and festivals around the world, the three artists formed the Zukerman Trio in 2013. A recipient of the Canadian Juno Award, Forsyth is recognized as one of the most dynamic cellists in North America. Her music enchants audiences with its intense tonal richness, impressive technique and exquisite musicality. She has toured with prominent orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a renowned Canadian pianist who regularly performs internationally as both a soloist and a recitalist, Cheng has earned praise for her tonal beauty and outstanding musicianship. She has received many coveted awards and distinctions, including a Gold Medal at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition. Cheng has also instructed master classes at universities and conservatories throughout North America and Asia, and has served on the jury for several competitions.
As part of the Chamber Music Sedona concert, the Zukerman Trio will perform piano trios by Beethoven, Dvorak and Schubert.
