Sedona Fire District to Build 9/11 Memorial Around One of Last Remaining Steel Girders

Sedona Memorial Plaza Commemorating 9-11

Sedona, AZ:  The Sedona Fire District (SFD) has recently been awarded one of the last remaining pieces of steel girders from New York's World Trade Center after the horrific collapse on September 11, 2001.
It is their mission to build an appropriate and respectful Memorial Plaza around this girder so that no one will ever forget those who lost their lives on that fateful day. Their goal is to raise funds from corporate and private organizations to ensure completion of this project.

Scott Jablow, Chair of the 9/11 Memorial Plaza, retired New York Port Authority officer, and previous SFD board member, requested this piece of the World Trade Center for a memorial in Sedona. The girder is 5 feet long, weighs 3000 lbs, and is believed to be an outside girder from the 20th floor of the WTC, although the specific tower from which it fell remains unknown. Sept 11, 2016, is the target date for the Memorial Plaza dedication at Sedona Fire Station 6, 2675 SR 179, Sedona, Arizona.

The girder is currently in Sedona and has been mounted on a mobile trailer so it can be moved to the sites of upcoming fundraising events prior to its permanent display in the Memorial Plaza. The site of the Plaza is the Sedona Fire Station 6, located in the Chapel area just off the Sedona Red Rock Scenic Byway (SR 179).

Dave Soto, Governing Board Member of the Sedona Fire District comments:  "In one way or another, the events that unfolded before our very eyes have touched us all.  Therefore, I invite you to assist us in donating funds of any amount to ensure this 9/11 Memorial Plaza is built and becomes a place for all of us to see and remember for generations to come. Our goal for completion is September 11, 2016, the 15th anniversary of that tragic day."

He invites the public to donate: "Your tax deductible donation of any amount is greatly appreciated for this project.  Donations of $911 or more will receive recognition on the sponsorship wall at the Memorial. Larger donation levels will be given a prominent recognition on the sponsorship wall. All donations will be featured on the 9/11 Memorial page on the SFD website and in the print journal for the dedication ceremony."
