Sedona Arts Center Congratulates Sharron V. Porter for Best in Show at the 36th Annual Juried Members Exhibition

Beyond the Gate by Sharron V. PorterThe Sedona Arts Center is showing its 36th Annual Juried Members Exhibition, the community’s largest and longest-running group exhibition of visual art.

The exhibition includes everything from painting and watercolor to wood, jewelry, and fiber art. A focus was also placed on drawing, mixed media, photography and digital art, and ceramics. The Members’ Show is steeped in tradition and was open to all current Arts Center members, regardless of whether a seasoned professional or a new and emerging artist.

With an unprecedented number of entries this year, the Best of Show award went to Sharron V. Porter for Beyond the Gate, Mixed Media. Porter is a seasoned veteran in the art world having won numerous awards and has been featured in exhibitions all over the country. The award included a cash prize of $250.

First place winners in the various categories include Ken & Lyn Mikell for Raven’s Prayer in Ceramics / Pottery Professional; Susan Pitcairn for Kindnesses for Drawing/Colored Pencil Professional and Anne Vosikas for Mingus After the Rain Drawing/Colored Pencil Emerging. In the Glass Jewelry Professional category first place went to Sue Horine for Let My Spirit Soar and Painting Oil/Acrylic Professional went to Janet Weaver for Pomegranates XXVIII and for Emerging to Shirley Nagle for Flower Cloud.

Local and world renowned Ken Rowe took first place in Sculpture Professional for Fly Fish Maquette, Sculpture Emerging went to Lon Walters for Ferris Wheel Party and Evelyn Gholson’s Vintage Elements took first place for the Professional Wood/Fiber/3D Mixed Media/Fine Crafts category. All first place winners received a cash prize of $100.00.

The Sedona Arts Center congratulates all of the artists for their submissions and for continuing to create and promote art in the community of Sedona.

Sedona Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the creative life of Sedona and the cultural diversity of Northern Arizona. The Center’s Fine Art Gallery exhibits the work of over 100 local artists, and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
