Hot Air Balloons Among Most Popular Tours in Sedona
Sedona, AZ: The most popular of all Sedona tours include hot air balloon rides. Two hot air balloon companies fly over Sedona: Red Rock Balloons and Northern Light Balloons (since 1973!). They are the only two balloon companies permitted by the U.S. Forest Service to take off and land in the Sedona area.
Balloons usually carry six to seven passengers but some have a twelve-passenger capacity enabling larger groups to fly together.
Red Rock Balloons are often seen in our photo and fly around the Sedona Airport Mesa where you can clearly see Cathedral Rock, Sedona’s most photographed red rock attraction. They like to call the experience an “aerial nature walk” as well, due to the chance to spot wildlife on the ground, such as javelinas and mule deer.
A hot air balloon gives its passengers a wonderful panoramic view while flying over red rock country. Imagine slowly gliding up to an altitude of between 2,000 to 4,000 feet to behold the magic of Sedona and the Verde Valley at sunrise.
The pilots are excellent and very experienced. Some of them are also involved in competitive ballooning.
Weather permitting, the balloons fly 7 days a week at sunrise, and the whole ride takes about 3 to 4 hours.
None of the balloon rides actually go over Sedona’s spire-like red rock formations as getting too close would be uncontrollably dangerous. If you want aerial closeups of red rocks, a helicopter ride is a better choice. The cost is approximately $200 per person and reservations are required.
Red Rock Balloons also offers a Sedona wedding package with reservations at least 2 months in advance.
