    Representative Paul Gosar's Misguided and Misleading Opposition to the Proposed Greater Grand Canyon National Heritage Monument

    Special interests consisting of private companies and members of the Arizona legislature are opposed to the establishment of the Greater Grand Canyon National Heritage Monument because it would prevent expansion of uranium mining around the Grand Canyon. Currently, one such foreign company, based just 6 miles from the rim of the Grand Canyon, is mining and selling uranium to the world market.

    Part 2 of our story recalls how the City of Sedona was approached by the Grand Canyon Trust in order to adopt a resolution supporting a twenty-year withdrawal of a million acres surrounding the Grand Canyon from mining activities. What seemed like an obvious "yes" to the resolution turned out to be a bit more complicated.
