10 Tips for Traveling With Your Furry Friend
Taking your dog on a trip can be a very satisfying and bonding experience, if your dog enjoys exploring, is well-behaved and friendly, and if you plan ahead.
Here are 10 things you should consider bringing for your pet to keep your dog comfortable and safe when you travel.
1. Place two pieces of identification on your pet's collar: a permanent ID with your name, home address and phone number and a temporary travel ID with the address and phone number of where your or a contact person can be reached.
2. Pack plenty of food and water. Bring along a supply to last the trip, plus a little extra in case there is a spill or you decide to stay a day or two longer. It's best not to switch dog food when you are traveling to minimize stomach upsets. If you feed your dog canned food, don't forget to bring a can opener.
3. It''s helpful to bring portable bowls for food and water so you don't have to scramble to find them when your dog is hungry or thirsty.
4. Pack some toys, your pet's bed or pillow, towels and grooming brushes. Familiar things can be very reassuring to your dog. And don't forget a leash so you and your furry friend can enjoy all the sights together. You may want to pack an extra leash and collar or harness in case one gets wet.
