Pink Jeep® Tours Hosts Students for R.O.C.K.S. Program

Pink Jeep® Tours R.O.C.K.S. Program in Sedona, Arizona

Sedona, AZ:  Pink Jeep ®Tours hosted Verde Valley Montessori, Verde Valley Christian School, Desert Star Community School, and Big Park School during the first week of February for the R.O.C.K.S. Program. Three additional schools including, Sedona Charter School, St. Joseph Catholic School and West Sedona School will enjoy the opportunity to partake in the R.O.C.K.S. Program later in February.

Created by Pink Jeep® Tours, R.O.C.K.S. stands for Reinforcing Our Children’s Knowledge of Sedona. This is an off-road excursion that encourages the love of nature and a respect for the local eco-systems as well as Native American history. The complimentary program takes fourth grade students from the area schools on the Ancient Ruins tour to the Honanki Ruins, a cliff dwelling and rock art site where Sinagua Indians lived from AD1100 to 1300.

Guides from Pink Jeep® Tours show the students how the Native Sinagua used plants for food, medicine, and to make textiles. Students also learn the difference between a petroglyph and pictograph with examples of the rock art in person.

This program provides hands on learning and gives the children an up close and personal lesson on the history and treasures lying in their own backyards. Mike Hermen, Director of Sales & Marketing for Pink Jeep® Tours shared the reason for creating and offering the program, “Obviously we value and treasure the area history and are able to share this knowledge with hundreds of thousand of visitors a year, but to give our local students the chance to take a tour and see these pieces of history up close and personal makes a significant impact. We offer this tour as an educational tool for local teachers to share with their students, and hopefully take them out of the classroom environment to appreciate the beauty and rich history right here in their own backyard.”
