Page Springs, Arizona: The Page Springs Fish Hatchery is one of those unexpected treasures in the area surrounding Sedona that many tourists, and even locals, may have missed.

In my view, part of the dilemma is that this not-to-be-missed attraction is hiding behind tangled thickets and old growth Cottonwoods that line Page Springs Road. We always heard this is the largest fish hatchery in Northern Arizona, and that visitors are welcome...but we didn't realize what a great place it really is!

Just after you pull off Page Springs Road, the hatchery complex opens up to view, and I can say I was astounded with the layout and size, in addition to its immediate visitor and family-friendly appeal.

A quaint walkway over a beautiful show pond is the first thing that draws you from the spacious parking lot. Here, you can feed an energetic gathering of incredibly friendly Rainbow trout that jump right up to the treats being offered, splashing in the sun and showing off a spectrum of colors along their sides I never imagined! (Yes, I've seen those fake-looking, mounted fish with pink-and-red dappled sides, but every time I've seen real trout in the past, viewing from overhead, they just looked dull, dark brown.)
