Sedona Wedding Professionals Association
Offers Tips for your Sedona Wedding -

Finding a Photographer

The first thing I suggest to any couple looking to hire a photographer is that they like the photographer's style and images. This is ultimately what you will have after all is said and done. This will be the legacy that you can pass down to your children, grandchildren and future generations. You can check these through web sites or brochures and other printed materials.

If you like the images, have a phone interview and see if you are a match in general. Get ballpark prices for the type of service you wish for. Check if the photographer produces the types of finished products you will want such as albums or wall art.
Next interview the photographer in person and see if you are a good match personality-wise. The only person you will be spending more time with on your wedding day is the person you are getting married to. If you don't get along famously before the wedding, you probably won't during the wedding.

Ask to see complete wedding albums as opposed to a collection of "star" images. Check the quality of the printing, composition and storytelling.

There have been articles to suggest that you should only hire a photographer that uses a certain type of camera. There have been so many recent changes in technology with regards to film and digital cameras that this is no longer the criteria for making a choice. If you like the images you have seen don't worry about the tool the photographer uses to capture your memories.

 Questions you should ask include:
  • Does the photographer have back up equipment in case of a breakdown?
  • Does the photographer use an assistant?
  • How many weddings has the photographer photographed?
  • Does he/she belong to professional associations to continue learning the craft?

Finally, don't make a decision based on price alone, photography is one of the areas where you get what you pay for. There is no second chance to capture your wedding memories.
