If you have been living in Sedona for a little as one month, and have spent as little as 3 hours a week walking, hiking or exploring the majestic beauty of Sedona's red rocks and cool river, you most likely have turned a corner, and come across a beautiful intimate wedding scene. Hundreds of brides and grooms come from thousands of miles away, every weekend, to be wed beneath the glory of Sedona's mountains. It is the wedding destination site of the Southwest. Resorts, boutique hotels and B & B's are booked 12 months in advance, forcing wedding couples to book their wedding mid week. This source of income for Sedona flows over to the fine restaurants, beauty salons and spas... and keeps florists, photographers and officients hopping.
Many of these wedding are as small as a party of 4; the bride and groom, one minister and a witness, which many times is the florist who created the bride's bouquet and boutonniere. In contrast, many weddings boast 200 to 300 guests, many of whom have flown to Arizona from New York, Atlanta, or Los Angeles, to be a part of Sedona's magic spell. It is not at all unusual to communicate with brides from Japan, New Zealand, France or Germany, via internet, who can create their entire wedding from the many websites available and can book their minister, hotel, transportation, flowers and photographers without ever speaking to a "live person." All go off without a hitch.
"Theme" weddings such as Victorian, Renaissance, Western, 1940's, and even Halloween can also be easily created by Sedona's wedding professionals, and have become more and more popular over the past decade. These are born from the bride's dreams to be different, exciting, and to give her guests something to talk about for years. This phenomenon has forced some florists to warehouse dozens of rental props and keep thousands of catalogs on hand, to be able to offer the bride her every wish!
Just as the Hopi artists creates the fine art of magnificent sand paintings, over a period of many days, only to destroy them, floral artists take days to prepare delicate stems and create masterpieces, only to have them wither after the festivities. The floral artist can spend over a year, brainstorming designs with a bride, which sometimes requires living "inside her head" and dreaming her dreams 24/7. And as soon as the dream is over, the floral artist must muster up the strength to create another dream theme, sometimes as often as 3-4 times every weekend.
This makes Sedona the "dreamiest" place on earth!
