Sedona, AZ: Get ready for Tlaquepaque’s Fourth of July, Sizzlin’ Summer Bash celebration on Saturday, July 3, at the beautiful Arts and Crafts Village in Sedona, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Music is always a must for any Fourth of July party, and Sizzlin’ Summer Bash is no exception. Featured performers include the Geritol Hipsters, Red Rock Acapella, and Cat Black Band.
Festivities throughout the day will include pie eating contests, foot-tapping Dixieland, hot jazz and blues, potato sack races, face painting, and star-spangled crafts for kids, scrumptious BBQ, and even a gleaming red local fire truck. Sedona favorites, Red Rock Acapella, the dynamic women’s barbershop harmony chorus kick off the music at 11a.m., in Patio de las Campanas and again at 11:30 a.m., in Patio del Norte.
The celebration gets into high gear from 12 noon to 3 p.m., in Patio del Norte with the Cat Black Band. Sultry singer Cat Black and her rock-solid rhythm section, let loose with classic blues, rock, jazz and country featuring songs by Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Debbie Davies, Johnny Lang and original tunes that will get you on your feet.
“If you like traditional Dixieland jazz and get chills when you hear patriotic music from a bygone era, then don’t miss the award-winning Geritol Hipsters hailing from Prescott, AZ,” says Wendy Lippman, managing partner of Tlaquepaque. This fun-loving group “just plays happy music that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face,” reports Bill West, the groups trumpet player. They will be performing in Patio de las Campanas from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Eat some pie and support the Toys for Tots — and maybe win a prize - at 2 p.m., at Calle Independencia. The $5 entry fee for the pie-eating contest, sponsored by the Sedona Marine Corps League, helps Toys for Tots. Pie-eating winners in the different age groups — kids, teens and adults — are awarded prizes from Tlaquepaque stores Eco Body and Bath, Tlaquepaque Toy Town, Feliz Navidad, Sedona Music Boxes, and Diva Sedona to name a few.
Still hungry? Oak Creek Brewery & Grill will have an outdoor old fashion barbeque, a delicious assortment of flame-cooked fare including sliders, ribs, and mini brats.
To really revel in the spirit of the Fourth there is nothing like a good old potato sack race, rarely seen in these parts. Gather your friends and families for a 1:30 p.m., start time and let the fun begin at Calle Independencia. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
For kids there will be fun face painting and a balloon artist that transforms balloons into whimsical animal creatures. And for those youngsters who love creative play there is the Star Spangled Kids Crafts with an endless assortment of free crafts and activities to celebrate the holiday. All kids activities take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are free.
