Sedona, AZ: The Sedona Heritage Museum announces the release of an audio tour, the latest in their efforts to enhance the museum experience for visitors.
The new tour includes 32 audio stops where local history stories and memories are told by narrators or actors portraying pioneers in a first-person style. Imagine hearing Walter Jordan tell about the difficulties of being an orchardist along Oak Creek, a schoolteacher of 100 years ago describing the first year at the first school near Sedona, and a cowboy describing his tough life working cattle around the Verde Valley.
“The Museum’s new audio tour has given us the chance to add another layer to the usual museum visit. The stories give insight into the people that settled our area and create a memorable visit,” said Kathie Hamblen, project team leader for implementing the new audio tour. “We are very proud that this new tour is receiving great reviews from our visitors.” said Bill Levengood, new Sedona Historical Society President and project team member.
The audio tour is easy to use. Each person can have their own device. Sedona Historical Society members receive free Museum admission and free use of the tour devices. For non-members, the audio tour rental is only $2, which is collected to offset maintenance and repair costs.
This new addition to the museum is the result of a grant from the Sedona Community Foundation, in-kind services from John Conway and Sedona voiceovers, and many hours of work by many Sedona Historical Society and Museum volunteers
The Sedona Historical Society operates the Sedona Heritage Museum on the Jordan Farmstead at 735 Jordan Road in uptown Sedona. The Museum is open daily at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 928-282-7038.
