Lanning Gallery Welcomes Mark Gould
in Sedona Arizona

Painting By Mark Gould Showing At Lanning Gallery In Sedona Arizona

Sedona, AZ: Lanning Gallery in Sedona presents the exhibition “Life’s Path: Mark Gould 2009” for its “1st Friday Gallery Tour” reception on November 6, from 5-8 p.m.   The gallery welcomes the artist who will be on hand to meet visitors and give several talks throughout the evening.

Best known for his continuing series “My Neighbor’s House,” Gould will be unveiling his latest works that represent rewarding new paths investigated with redefined energy.  It is an energy shaped by a series of figurative works that have brought with them a permission to explore familiar aspects in exciting new ways.  Born and raised in the rural heartland of America, Gould’s paintings often depict the rolling hills and pitched rooftops that have become so iconic to the American imagination.  It has been the richness of his palette and the beauty of his surfaces, from mirror smooth to roughly built-up or incised, that have added to his well-deserved reputation.

Painting By Mark Gould Showing At Lanning Gallery In Sedona ArizonaGould’s unique style interprets these recognizable forms and scenes with abstract elements that bring with them an immediacy to include a viewer’s own projections and imagination.
His landscapes have been taken to represent the very heart of this country and his figurative work often springs from these very scenes, as organically as people come undeniably from place.  Whether of figures set within landscape or not, these works bear the same unmistakable and intriguing combination of form and indistinctness.  The figurative work has inspired Gould to turn over decision-making to the material as never before and to bring this dynamic inspiration back into his landscapes.  It is these lessons and surprises, the unseen as much as the seen that compel growth in Gould; as he says himself: “The process is my life.”

This opening reception is part of the Sedona Gallery Association’s 2nd annual “Red Rock Canvas: The Event,” a citywide arts celebration the weekend of November 6-8.  Gould is one of the silent auction artists who will be donating a painting to benefit Camp Soaring Eagle.  The exhibition is also an SGA “1st Friday Gallery Tour” event.  For further information drop by Lanning Gallery, Hozho Center, at 431 S.R. 179, in Sedona, call 928-282-6865 or visit www.lanninggallery.com.  The gallery is open daily
10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 5 on Sunday.
