Sedona, AZ: Sedona Airport and Jazz on the Rocks (SJOR) are sponsoring “Sedona Music on the Mesa Concert – a Bridge to Jazz on the Rocks” featuring such talented performers as Susannah Martin, Jeanie Carroll, The Jazz Bedouins, and Steve Douglas’ Gypsy Jazz trio, Zazu. The concert will be held on Sunday, September 20, at the Sedona Airport Community Fair, being held Saturday, September 19. Both days are free to attend with ample parking on the airport mesa.
The Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Jazz festival which has been celebrated for decades as one of Sedona’s most popular signature events is taking a hiatus for 2009. SJOR is planning on returning in 2010 with a new jazz festival, but had no large crowd events scheduled for 2009 until they received an invitation to use the airport as a venue.
Sedona’s Mayor Rob Adams said, “The airport is a great venue location for the fair and has the potential to host other events during the year. Everyone is thrilled SJOR has decided to take advantage of what the airport offers to co-create a jazz concert for 2009.”
Bettye Wilson, president of SJOR said ”the Airport’s suggestion to create a free “Music on the Mesa” concert the day after the fair is viewed as a wonderful opportunity to share great jazz with Sedonans and with those who traditionally attend the jazz festival.” This new one-day event is being produced and managed by Sedona Fair, Inc., the producers of the community fair, Bettye Wilson and Larry Manzi, a new board member of SJOR and professional musician.
The Sedona Winefest continues into Sunday with a portion of the income from the purchase of wine tasting tickets going to SJOR as a fundraiser. The two-day Winefest will feature ten regional wineries that are coming together in one location for the first time in Sedona.
