Sedona, AZ: “Marcello Marcello” premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January and has been playing to rave audience and critical reviews at festivals since then, including the prestigious Philadelphia Film Festival. The film is making a stop at the Minneapolis Film Festival before coming to Sedona and then on to the Seattle International Film Festival before returning oversees.
The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Arizona premiere of this award-winning Italian romantic comedy on Tuesday, May 12. There will be two screenings of the film at 4 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., at Harkins Sedona Six Theatres. The film is the fifth in a six-week “Premiere Series” that will continue every Tuesday through mid-May.
“We were very lucky to get this crowd-pleasing film for a very special engagement between festivals and before it headed back to Europe for its theatrical release there,” said festival director Patrick Schweiss. “It is sure to be an enjoyable night at the theater with a fun, romantic comedy, and a charming, talented international cast.”
For the love of the beautiful Elena, a fisherman's young son Marcello turns a whole village upside down.
Italy, 1956. In the picturesque island of Amatrello, a unique custom keeps the young men of the village busy: when a girl turns eighteen, every boy is invited to bring a gift for her first date. However, the gift is not for the girl, but for the father … who will ultimately determine which boy takes her on her first rendezvous!
Eighteen-year-old fisherman’s son, Marcello, doesn’t care about this tradition until he sets eyes on the enchanting Elena, the daughter of the Mayor, who has returned to the island and – according to the tradition – has come of age.
As time runs out and competition rises, Marcello comes up with the perfect gift for the Mayor. But getting that gift isn't easy. Soon, he is forced to barter with the entire village, as everyone seems to want something from someone else. Marcello's frantic quest ensues, evolving into a process of reconciliation among the village’s inhabitants.
