Lanning Gallery Features Kathi Caricof Stone Sculpture in Sedona Arizona

Marble Sculpture Featured At Lanning Gallery In Sedona ArizonaSedona, AZ: For an artist to stand before a block of stone, a gift from nature, and begin to chip away at it takes real courage.  For an artist to feel that the image they are about to awaken is worthy of that intru- sion requires total trust that the parts eliminated will reveal a richer vision.  At Sedona’s Lanning Gallery, the work of sculptor Kathi Caricof unmistakably marks her as an artist worthy of those efforts.  On “1st Friday,” January 2, the gallery show- cases her latest sculptures with a reception from
5-8 p.m.

Kathi Caricof is well known and much acclaimed for her marble sculpture and reliefs and has installed major pieces of public art on the campus of the University of Denver and in several U.S. cities.  For over 15 years Caricof has instructed and carved with sculptors from around the world at Marble/Marble-Institute of Colorado.  Lanning Gallery features both her tabletop-sized pieces as well as freestanding sculptures that can be placed indoors or out.

Caricof built her superb reputation carving marble into graceful shapes, both abstractly figurative and grandly minimalist.  For the sculptor the concepts she wishes to liberate from stone are, “those ideas that I am liberating from myself:  independence, vulnerability, compassion, clarity, longing, sensuality and isolation.”

What may next be liberated will be, “a result of the ongoing dialogue between carver and stone,” Caricof states.  “Over the years I have found that my art not only reflects my present life content and current moods, but it also, often unconsciously, but also with great accuracy, predicts the as yet unknown emotions and challenges that are about to emerge in my future.”

For more information about Kathi Caricof and her sculptures contact Lanning Gallery by calling 928-282-6865, mail@lanninggallery.com, or www.lanninggallery.com.  Open daily: 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., on Sunday.
