Sedona, AZ: The Sedona Historical Society will host its annual pioneer and community picnic at Indian Gardens’ Park, also known as Bacon Rind Park, in Oak Creek Canyon. The potluck picnic lunch is open to the public and will be enjoyed by anyone interested in meeting Sedona pioneer descendants and long-time residents.

Attendees are asked to bring a food dish to share along with their own plates and utensils.  A Dutch oven roasted meat entree and beverages will be provided by the Sedona Historical Society. The picnic will be held on Sunday, October 5, at 12 p.m.

After lunch, the group will carpool to the old Todd’s Lodge,
now known as Garland’s Lodge, further up the canyon where arrangements have been made for two daughters of the Todd family to give a talk and a tour about the history of this historic place.  At the lodge, scrapbooks will be out for viewing. Along the way to the Lodge, the location of the tunnel over the old road in the 1920s and the location of the canyon’s old school will be marked.

The Sedona Historical Society’s mission is to research, preserve and teach the history of the greater Sedona area.  As part of that effort the Society operates the Sedona Heritage Museum at 735 Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona.
