Hutcherson’s influence and presence over the next 40 years included an impressive array of recordings with an equally impressive array of artists, all-star bands and musical styles.  During the 1980s, his work as a sideman intensified and, in 1981 alone, he participated on eight recordings for Sonny Stitt, Harold Land, Chico Freeman, Hubbard, Sonny Rollings, Pharoah Sanders and McCoy Tyner.  He released his own Solo/Quartet LP in 1981.

In the 90s, he made fewer recordings but kept a steady touring schedule.
Among the highlights is his involvement with the San Francisco Jazz Collective, which has toured every spring since 2004 featuring compositions by band members and one “jazz giant.”

Proceeds of the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Festival support SJOR educational programs and scholarships for students from across Arizona.

2008 Festival sponsors
include Abundance Vineyards, APS, Arizona Informant, The Arizona Republic, Bistro Bella Terra, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa, KJZZ, KYOT, Radisson Poco Diablo Resort, Sedona Arts & Culture Commission and Sedona Rouge.  The Festival also is supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts.  The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation sponsors the SJOR Youth Jazz Band.
