Sedona AZ: The Music To My Ears concert series teams up the Phoenix-based husband and wife team LYRA, with Sedona’s Artists In Rhythm owner and performer Steve Douglas. “LYRA + 1” The concert will be held in the Community Room at the Sedona Public Library on Sunday, August 24, beginning at 2 p.m.
The concert series is a showcase of Arizona talent, be it fresh acts or legendary musicians, in unusual musical combinations. “LYRA + 1” is a classic example of such talent. Many people in the community are already fans of LYRA. Allen Ames and Maryanne Kremer-Ames have been the Ensemble in Residence at the Briar Patch Inn in Oak Creek Canyon the past 19 summers. Eclectic and modern, LYRA is a polished duo having performed together for many years. Douglas, as +1, joins the team on string bass and guitar.
First meeting as freelance musicians for a wedding ceremony on Valentine’s Day in 1987, Maryanne and Allen married exactly two years later — on Valentine’s Day — at the Briar Patch Inn, and it has been their summer home ever since. The duo writes and arranges much of their own music and transcribes many pieces for their own performances. Lively, engaging, innovative, and full of surprises, concert goers will hear everything from Bach to Beatles, Mozart to Johnny Mandel, Dvorak to Django, and Pachabel to Les Paul.
Kremer-Ames is a highly accomplished classical guitarist with years of college level teaching experience and a Master of Arts on guitar from Arizona State University. She also has a degree in percussion and brings an additional flavor to their performances and recordings.
