Sedona, AZ: The Red Rocks Music Festival is proud to present three magnificent musical presentations during the 7th annual event, including Baroque to Blue, Music Under Totalitarian Regime, and Classical Meets Jazz. Performance dates are August 23, 30, and 31, with each performance starting at 7:30 p.m. All concerts will be held at the Sedona & Verde Valley Jewish Community Center.
The first is Paradisa!, a musical trio consisting of flute, cello and piano. Along with a taste of classical music, listeners will also enjoy the bold, spunky sound of jazz. The three young performers — Christina Steffen (flutist), Blythe Tretick (cellist) and Andrea Fennig (pianist) — come with an extensive and impressive musical repertoire and backgrounds that will dazzle concertgoers and music lovers. The diverse trio will welcome Red Rocks Music Festival guests with their unique sound in their performance of “Baroque to Blue.” Paradisa! will help listeners redefine classical music with an original and innovative new sound.
The second event, “Music Under Totalitarian Regime,” is a performance filled with the masterpieces created during the Holocaust and in Communist Russia. A beautiful and poignant performance, audiences will hear and see the somber accounts of men, women and children living in the darkest of times.
Performers include David Ehrlich, a native Israeli and violinist since the age 13. Ehrlich was appointed by the President of Virginia Tech as a “University Fellow of Fine Arts.” Ehrlich and his wife Theresa (pianist), direct the Renaissance Academy in Virginia as well as the “Musica Viva” concert series.
Rami Solomonow, another esteemed artist, plays the viola. Solomonow studied with Shmuel Ashkenasi (a former performer in the Red Rocks Music Festival) and has performed as a soloist all around the globe. Currently Solomonow is a professor of viola at De Paul University, Chicago.
The festival will also feature three cellists — Thomas Landschoot, professor of cello at Arizona State University, Jan Simiz, cellist with the Phoenix Symphony, and Michael Center.
