Sedona, AZ: Keep Sedona Beautiful Preserving the Wonder Speaker Series sponsors the presentation, “Think Globally Act Locally” with Thom Hulen.
Hulen, the new Director of the Arizona League of Conservation Voters, has worked in conservation for decades. Most recently, he served as the Conser- vation Director for the Desert Foothills Land Trust raising millions of dollars for land acquisition and stewardship activities.
The Arizona League of Conservation Voters is the largest member-supported, statewide conservation organization in Arizona. As the political arm of the environmental community, the League works to elect pro-conservation candidates to state office, educates elected officials on issues of importance to its members, and lobbies on behalf of conservation measures. The League also works to promote accountability among our elected officials.
“Our local conservation choices do have global consequences,” states Hulen. “As a civilization we know the right actions to take to conserve our precious natural heritage, but for many reasons the political will is not present.”
Hulen will speak about how to effectively motivate and create partnerships with elected officials. Additionally, he will be able to address some of the immediate issues facing the Sedona area such as National Scenic Area and Dark Skies Initiatives.
The evening, which is open to the public and free of charge, begins at 5:30 p.m., with a wine and cheese welcome reception. The program will begin at 5:45 p.m. Hulen will answer questions at the end of the evening, which concludes at 7 pm. The speaker series takes place at the Keep Sedona Beautiful headquarters, the historic Pushmataha Center, 360 Brewer Rd. in Sedona.
