Sedona, AZ: For a very limited time, connoisseurs of fine spirits have the opportunity to drink a rare and highly allocated 40 year old scotch at Uptown's Gallery on Oak Creek restaurant. The Gallery received the second bottle of only 500 produced – only 12 were given to the United States – of the Scotland made Glenfiddich 40, a Gold Medal Best in Class winner at this year's International Wine & Spirits Competition.
The first bottle produced is kept at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. The second bottle was given to Gallery on Oak Creek at Amara Resort & Spa, the only Sedona restaurant to receive a bottle. Each bottle has an estimated worth of $2,500 to $3,000. The Speyside Single Malt Scotch is whisky distilled and bottled by William Grant and Sons.
The Gallery is selling 1.25 ounce servings of the scotch for $125. There are only 20 servings left in the bottle. Whisky Magazine recently labeled the Glenfiddich 40 as "the world's finest single malt Scotch whisky."
"The malt has matured with elegance, and we are extremely fortunate to be able to offer it to scotch connoisseurs in the Verde Valley," said Amara General Manager Mike Rock. "Typically only big city connoisseurs get this opportunity so I'm sure once the word gets out that it's available here, those 20 servings left will go fast!"
Michael Jackson, author of The Malt Whisky Companion writes that the Glenfiddich 40, "is the most urbane Glenfiddich that I have tasted... it tells a story a little at a time, dryly, almost teasingly. It makes such good company that I am reluctant to share it."
Its reviews say the scotch is "slow to evolve in the glass, but when it does, it reveals itself as an amazingly deep and complex whisky, layered with chocolate and honey, with a long dry, smoky, peaty finish."
