Sedona, Arizona: Bob and Betty Matas arrived in Sedona, Arizona, today to an enthusiastic crowd of well-wishers and a welcoming committee comprised of Sedona dignitaries, including Sedona Mayor Pud Colquitt and directors and members of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce.
Sedona, Arizona - dubbed the Most Beautiful Place in America by USA Weekend - rolled out the Red Rock Carpet for the New York couple that just spent the past week on the road, coming from New York to their new home in Sedona in a New York City Yellow Cab.
The Matases, who left New York on April 10, were also met by “Brooklyn Paulie” Lo Duca, Sedona resident and father of NY Mets catcher and former Arizona State star, Paul Lo Duca, in the brief ceremony.
New York City taxi driver, Doulgas Guldeniz, who helped them move their belongings and two cats more than 2400 miles was also met by photographers and reporters. Bob Matas held one of their beloved cats while Betty Matas was asked if she would do the trip in a cab if she had to do it all over again. She enthusiastically said she would.
Sedona Mayor Pud Colquitt commented: “While traveling cross country by taxi is unique, we understand the intense attraction and love people have for Sedona and that they will travel by any means necessary to come to the ‘good life.’ We welcome Betty and Bob Matas with open arms.”
Char Beltran, President/CEO of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce stated: “Our proud city is a world unto itself, surrounded by scenic beauty, apart from the mainstream…and altogether extraordinary. We are honored these two wonderful people have chosen to make Sedona their home.”
