Chamber Music Sedona Presents The Zimro Project
Chamber Music Sedona Presents The Zimro Project
Chamber Music Sedona proudly presents Alexander Fiterstein and The Zimro Project, with young artists from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Curtis Institute of Music, and  Juilliard. The concert will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2010, beginning at 2:30 p.m., at the St. John Vianney Church. Residency is January 20-24.

Founded in 2008 by clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein, The Zimro Project is a unique ensemble dedicated to incorporating Jewish art music into chamber music programs. It is inspired by the Zimro Ensemble, a group active almost a century ago in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Zimro Project is comprised of a core group of artists who are accomplished soloists and chamber musicians, many of whom are members and former members of Chamber Music Society II of Lincoln Center and the Marlboro Music Festival. Artists for the Sedona residency include:

Alexander Fiterstein is a first prize winner of the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition as well as the Young Concert Artists International Auditions (YCA). He was a member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two, a three-year residency program for young emerging artists, and participated at the Marlboro Music Festival for four summers. Fiterstein has performed as soloist with the Flagstaff Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Danish National Radio Orchestra, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic, KBS Symphony of South Korea and the China National Symphony. He is on the concert artist faculty of Kean University in New Jersey. His website is www.fiterstein.com.

Lily Francis is recognized for her talents as a violinist and a violist. She is a member of CMS II the residency program for distinguished young artists, and regularly performs at Lincoln Center, in the Rose Studio, and Alice Tully Hall. She made her debut with the Farmington Valley Symphony, and since has made solo appearances with several Connecticut orchestras, including the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut Virtuosi, the New Britain Symphony, and the Connecticut Youth Symphony. Ms. Francis is the violist of the Vertigo String Quartet, which has performed extensively on the east coast, at the Bad-Schallerbach Chamber Music series. She received her Bachelor's degree from the Curtis Institute, studying with Joseph Silverstein, and her Master's degree at New England Conservatory, studying with Miriam Fried. She began viola studies in 2005, with Steven Tenenbom.

Cellist Nicholas Canellakis is a member of CMS II. He is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Orlando Cole and Peter Wiley, and was principal cellist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. He received a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Paul Katz. Mr. Cannellakis is a recipient of the Gregory Piatigorsky Award, and he is a founding member of the Vertigo String Quartet, recipient of the 2006 first prize at the Musicatri International Competition in Italy. He also received the top prize at the Johansen International Competition in Washington, DC. He is a member of the Ensemble ACJW and often performs at Bargemusic in New York.

Pianist Steven Beck is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where his teachers were Seymour Lipkin, Peter Serkin and Bruce Brubaker.
