The weekend before Thanksgiving is the first of two Thanksgiving holiday art and craft shows at Bell Rock Plaza in the Village of Oak Creek. There will be Christmas shopping galore and plenty of art for the art lovers.
Featured at this pre-Thanksgiving show will be painter Tom Gavitt. Tom has produced several thousand watercolor paintings which are represented in private collections around the world. Tom paintings are loosely rendered, boldly colored, high key, and light filled and he works with just five colors. The paintings are of Southwest landscapes and American Indian villages such as Taos Pueblo.
Tom paints exclusively with Winsor and Newton Transparent Watercolors and uses 300 pound Arches watercolor paper which is permanently mounted to a backing board. Over the years he has become a studio painter, working from photographs and has the ability to reconnect with the scene as first experienced and to convey that to the viewer.
Earlier in the year Tom won an Award of Merit in the painting category at the Southwest Art Show in Indio, one of the premier art shows in the West. He has won many awards at La Quinta and several back East. He has been the featured artist in galleries all over the country and has participated in juried art shows including the Sausalito Art Show, Beverly Hills Art Show, Santa Fe Art Show, La Quinta, Chicago Oklahoma City, Fountain Hills, Tubac, and many others all over the country. He is a past president of the Santa Fe Society of Artists and has served as show chairman of that group.
Tom says “I am self taught in watercolor, but I was born to the creative process. Technique is only part of art and creativity cannot be taught. Artists are born, not made."
Also featured at this show will be wood furniture, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, clothing, photography, copper, fused glass, a blacksmith, and more. There will be over 40 artists attending this event.
The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., November 21- 22. Surrounded by beautiful red rock scenery, Bell Rock Plaza is centrally located in the Village of Oak Creek - Gateway to Sedona. The Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Shows are an excellent introduction to the Sedona art scene with many of Sedona's hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and shopping close by.
