Thanksgiving in Sedona. It has a magical ring to it, just like the place. Apart from the undeniable splendor of the famous red rocks, great dining, and Sedona's magnetizing effect on artists and healers, late fall is abuzz with activity.
One of the newest events now in its second year is the Festival of Trees in Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. This year's theme is The Art Inspired Tree and the event starts the day after Thanksgiving, on Friday, November 27, and runs through December 6.
Imagine some of the region's best artists participating in an unusual creative project where everybody gets to see the finished piece and then bid on it if they choose. And happily, the proceeds from this event help a number of charities. No, it's not a wet paint auction—it's the decorating of 30 holiday trees. Think Christmas trees unplugged and trees as a canvass into new artistic territory.
Select artists will each be given a tree to unleash their whimsy, creativity, and boldness upon. And the lucky bid winners get a one-of-a-kind, pre-decorated, artistically-inspired Christmas tree in time for the holidays.
After public viewing the trees will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to local (and nationally affiliated) charities including Toys for Tots, Camp Soaring Eagle, Desert Star Charter School, and the Humane Society of Sedona. Silent auction items, available for bidding throughout the event, will also generate proceeds to be given to the selected charities. Visitors can see the trees and do their bidding on the Upper Terrace above Patio del Norte and Patio de las Campanas.
