What happens when the honeymoon is over? Join Canyon Moon for Neil Simon's warm-hearted hit comedy Barefoot in the Park, playing November 5-22.
Free-spirited Corie and straight-laced attorney Paul are ready to start their exciting new life together in their first apartment. But six exhausting flights of stairs, strange neighbors and a giant hole in the skylight don't bode well for a smooth start to their marriage. When Corie meets Victor Velasco, an aging but charming womanizer, and decides to introduce him to her shy, staid mother, the stage is set for a hilarious evening of love and laughter.
"Barefoot in the Park is about falling in love again with someone after you move in with them. Its message is that after the honeymoon, life and love truly begin," commented director Noah Lee Margetts.
Margetts brings a remarkable set of international film and theater credits, which include Chaplin with Robert Downey Jr., Batman Begins with Christian Bale, Tiger in the Snow with Roberto Benigni and Death of a Salesman on London's West End, opposite Tony & Olivier winner Brian Dennehy. He starred in, directed and produced Cat's-Paw at The King's Head Theatre in London, for which he received rave reviews from the London critics.
The brilliant set design is by Devin Terreson, who represents more than 50 years in the creative and performing arts and is descended from generations of inventors, artists, musicians, and engineers.
Included in the cast as the priggish Paul is Ben Jayston, who has frequently delighted Canyon Moon Theatre audiences. He appeared as Leo in last year's Chapter Two, as the skirt-chasing dentist in Murder at Howard Johnson's and as Richard in The Lion in Winter. Corie is played by CMT newcomer Mary Elizabeth Wallin, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts Performance and Design/Tech in 2007.
Jonn Lander plays the inveterate womanizer Velasco. For Shakespeare Sedona, Jonn played Gratiano in Othello and Rinaldo opposite Michael Learned in All's Well That Ends Well. At Flagstaff's Theatrikos Theatre he played the part of Reverend Tooker in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Lea Gracer, the woman behind SedonaFilmLovers.com, a website informing the community of independent films playing in Sedona, has delighted Verde Valley audiences as Kate Mallory in Romantic Comedy.
The show plays Thursday, November 5 through Sunday, November 22. Tickets for Barefoot in the Park previews on November 5 and November 6 are $16. During the run of each show, tickets are $19. Full-time student tickets are $11. To purchase tickets, call Brown Paper Tickets' 24-hour hotline at 1-800-838-3006 or go to our website at www.canyonmoontheatre.org.
