The Bell Rock Plaza Arts and Crafts Show will be held on June 20-21, featuring an exciting variety of art and crafts available for purchase and Indian fry bread, kettle corn and Italian ices as special treats.
Carol Benally, the featured artist for June, is a plein air oil painter from Pinon, on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. She attended school in Boston including Montserrat College of Art and Massachusetts College of Art, and has now lived on the Reservation for over 20 years. In that time she has been down dirt roads that not many people have traveled and sees compositions to paint at every turn.
Carol steps back in time to the days when Edgar Payne and Maynard Dixon traveled throughout the four corners region, painting plein-air to capture the time of day and colors. She then uses this sketch to create a stronger more controlled painting. The style in which she paints conveys a strong sense of light and color that she hopes will excite viewers into wishing they could have been there.
Additional featured artists are Glow Ybarra and her sister Christine Bendele with their jewelry business All AGlow. The sisters specialize in exotic wire wrap techniques and Glow's husband Roger has gotten in on the act, creating their Egyptian Coils and Viking Weaves. (They needed the extra help to keep up with the demand!) All their jewelry is one of a kind and they are so organized that they keep 10 notebooks with pictures of all their sold items.
Glow has always worked with her hands, coming from Santa Barbara where she had a hair salon for 30 years. Christine does all the photography, bookkeeping, and web business. Eventually, Glow taught Christine some jewelry-making techniques and she has now joined the business full time, along with the work that Roger contributes. All their jewelry is extremely different and very popular, with many return customers who collect their work.
There will also be copper art, paintings, leather purses and jackets, sculpture jewelry, spa products, and more from over 30 artists. Surrounded by beautiful red rock scenery, Bell Rock Plaza is centrally located in the Village of Oak Creek - Gateway to Sedona. The Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Shows are an excellent introduction to the Sedona art scene with many of Sedona's hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and shopping close by. The show runs Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
