Turquoise Tortoise Gallery Features New Artists
Turquoise Tortoise Gallery Features New Artists
Sedona’s Turquoise Tortoise Gallery has welcomed “back home” its scion, the popular Turquoise Tortoise Contemporary Gallery, formerly of the shops at Pinon Pointe-Hyatt in Sedona.

While several additional artists are also being welcomed into the gallery, three are the focus of celebration throughout May.  Betty Kaufmann creates dynamic and colorful woven basketry, including her popular “vortex” wall-hangings; it is rising to the challenge of executing her innovative ideas that keeps Kaufmann inspired.

Leo Feeney creates southwest jewelry with a signature cluster style and many intricate stone settings in sterling silver; his work has become highly prized by collectors all over the United States.

Sharon Weiser paints joyfully close-up cactus compositions in either oils or acrylics; she works primarily from her own photos, cropping, replacing, repositioning or enlarging forms to expertly compose her light-filled canvases.

This will be a new era for Turquoise Tortoise Gallery.  “It’s going to be a wonderful unveiling for all the gallery’s regular collectors,” notes owner Peggy Lanning.  “We believe everyone will be pleasantly surprised and the evening should be great fun, especially with the artists there to talk with.”
Gallery Director Patricia Knight expresses great excitement for the “Southwest Contemporary” work that will now augment the 37-year-old gallery’s renowned Native American collection of original paintings, sculptures in stone and bronze, pottery, kachinas, an extensive Native American jewelry collection and more.  “It’s great,” she says, “there’s going to be more color, more brightness, and collectors will now have the complete southwest experience when they walk in the door.”

For an opportunity to explore the revamped gallery, visit Turquoise Tortoise Gallery in Sedona’s Hozho Center at 431 State Route 179.  The gallery is open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. -5 p.m. on Sunday.
