Gallery 527 Featured Artists Virginia Pates and Michael Craig Carrier
Gallery 527 Featured Artists Virginia Pates and Michael Craig Carrier
Virginia Pates has been sourcing her ceramic materials from both the landscape and the laboratory for the twenty years she has worked with clay. From Mississippi mud to English porcelain, she digs, invents, and uses an ever-changing palette of clays to create her loose, thin and gesturally thrown forms, while an underlying deftness as a glaze chemist shows through in her unusual range of glaze colors and surfaces.

Caption: Gallery 527 will show this signature piece by Virginia Pates created with Prange Porcelain with Harvester Ant Mound Dirt from Rancho Linda Vista, Oracle, Arizona.

Pates has been living in Jerome since August, 2008, when she began teaching ceramic art at the Verde Valley Campus of Yavapai College.  She says of Jerome, “There’s great dirt here.”

Gallery 527 is home to some of Northern Arizona’s finest artists housed in a beautifully restored 100-year-old building with a lovely sculpture garden on the side.

The Ecological Assemblages Show of Michael Craig Carrier will continue throughout the month of March, as well. For more information contact Donna at (928) 649-2277 or visit www.gallery527jerome.com.
