Goldenstein Gallery Features Art in the Raw Exhibition
Beginning Friday, February 1, Goldenstein Gallery in Uptown Sedona kicks off ”Art in the Raw,” a special group exhibition featuring art that is organic yet sophisticated. This exhibition is part of the Sedona Gallery Association’s February Art of Gold event. Fine Art Photographer Joel Gilgoff and Mixed Media artist Gloria Rothrock are featured in this compelling show.
The exhibition will debut a special new series by photographer Joel Gilgoff of world-class athletes training in Flagstaff. The renowned artist Henri Matisse once said, “It is through the human figure that I best succeed in expressing the nearly religious feeling that I have towards life.” Gilgoff’s unparalleled images honor the magnificence of the human form powerfully displaying the art of muscular symmetry, strength and beauty. Some of the athletes portrayed are slated to potentially compete in the Beijing Summer Olympics. Depicted at the height of their athleticism, the splendor of these portraits of fierce competitors is reminiscent of the heroes of ancient Greece where the Olympics were born.
On Thursday, February 7, at 6:00 p.m., Goldenstein Gallery is holding a free special talk “On the Road to Beijing” in conjunction with the third annual Sedona Marathon. This amazing clinic will feature master trainers Jim and Phil Wharton and elite athletes. The renown and inspiring Wharton team has medaled over 500 athletes and continues to work with both professional athletes and the average Joe as musculoskeletal therapists, authors of the Wharton health books, and writers for national magazines. Meet the athletes, hear their inspiring stories, ask questions, and learn easy to use tips for a healthy 2008.
Multi-Media Artist Gloria Rothrock’s desire to create and express her passion permeates her life. She sees it as an adventure to be a conduit for Spirit flowing through her heart and hands. Creating work that is sophisticated yet has a primitive quality, Rothrock uses a variety of materials to express her vision, including acrylic paints, oil crayons, pastels, ink, graphite, paper, fabric, and found objects. Often having layer upon layer, her images have a tactile quality that display an innate sensuality.
This special exhibition is part of the Sedona Gallery Associations “Art of Gold” event. Taking place February 1-7, Art of Gold is the collector’s opportunity! Any purchase of $500 or more is entered into a drawing to win a $1000 gift certificate for the Sedona Gallery Association’s galleries. Collectors are given an additional entry for each $500 increment.
The public is invited to meet these artists and other local artists at the opening night reception for “Art in the Raw” on Friday, February 1, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., during the First Friday Sedona Gallery Association Art Walk. The reception includes special performances by with the LauRha Frankfort & Dave Rentz musical ensembles.
