Verde Canyon Railroad Holiday Train Traditions
Verde Canyon Railroad Holiday Train Traditions
The iconic vision of a train under the Christmas tree is never more authentic than at Verde Canyon Railroad.  In fact, this December, Santa will sneak away from the crowded mall-scene every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday to ride the rails of the Verde Canyon Railroad.  The Santa Claus Express is ready to roll!

Whether child-like or simply young-at-heart, all passengers will have the opportunity to spend quality time with Santa and Mrs. Claus on each journey in December.  As Mrs. Claus serves cookies, hot chocolate and motherly warmth, Santa listens to the secret wishes of each child, with no attention to height or weight, gray hair or bifocals.  Santa¡¯s special helper, Elfie, also is onboard scattering holiday cheer and seasonal mischief.

A Verde Canyon Railroad ride is always extraordinary as the tracks twist and turn toward constant revelations that include Indian ruins, monocline faults and a 680 foot, manmade tunnel.  After visiting with Santa and his holiday crew, passengers might leave the cozy comfort of vintage cars, venturing onto the open-air gondolas to breathe in the crisp perfume of our canyon splendor.  Bald eagles, javelina, elk and Great Blue Heron are a common sight along the towering, red cliffs of this remote wilderness.

Since the 1930s, the toy train that chugs around the tracks below the Christmas tree has been symbolic of the season. Even today, the toy train still ranks among the 10 most-asked-for Christmas gifts. This holiday season give a child, or child-at-heart, the magical experience of a real train ride.  It¡¯s a journey through the wall-to-wall wonderland of Arizona¡¯s longest-running nature show, the Verde Canyon. Make this holiday season even better than last year by putting a real train under your tree.

The Verde Canyon Railroad is located at 300 North Broadway in historic Clarkdale, just minutes from Cottonwood's Blazin' M Ranch.  Ideally situated below the cold of the mountains and above the heat of the desert, the train depot is 25 minutes from Sedona, two hours north of Phoenix and one and one-half hours south of Flagstaff.

It¡¯s not the destination, it¡¯s the journey!
