Gallery 527 in Jerome Premieres the New Work of Elaine Joli
Gallery 527 in Jerome Premieres the New Work of Elaine Joli
Elaine Joli joins the talented group of artists who show their work at this gem of a gallery, Gallery 527, in Jerome.

Caption: The legend of the biblical story of the Tower of Babel is the inspiration for this sculpture. “Babel” by Elaine Joli portrays the common language disappearing with just letters and sounds remaining, rendering communication impossible.

Elaine’s body of work includes fascinating mixed media pieces and sculpture, incorporating what she calls ‘salvage art’. Bronze winged figures are present in much of her new work. The artist explains the complexity of the work.

“The subject matter that I am most interested in with regard to sculpture is the human figure. My figurative sculptures are rooted in the exploration of the precariousness of people’s places on earth. There is some symbolism in my work with my figures typically missing limbs, sprouting wings and balancing on one leg. I want the “abstractness” of the figure to reflect the fragility of the human condition. Mankind’s amazing and inexhaustible ability to stay on balance despite so many obstacles large and small is represented in the figure’s apparent distortion.

My collage work is inspired by communication, words, and images – the constant need of individuals to talk and share. I really enjoy incorporating found objects in my work – returning the past to the present.”

Meet the artist on November 1st at Gallery 527 in Jerome. Silver Shadow will be performing and the other talented artists represented will be on hand to discuss their work.
