The Verde Valley will celebrate Historic 89A with “Walkin’ on Main” on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Old Town Cottonwood Historic District, which sits between Jerome and Sedona, will be blocked off from traffic. The main stage headliner is Big Pete Pearson, the Phoenix BB King who will play from 3 – 5 p.m. Verde Valley winemakers and vineyards will host an outdoor wine tasting at Crema Café, 917 N. Main Street, in Cottonwood. Participating wineries and vineyards include: Alcantara Vineyards, Page Springs Cellars, Granite Creek Vineyards and Winery and the Jerome Winery.
Hezekiah Allen, organizer of the event, has brought together every arts group in the Verde Valley for this special festival. Camp Verde, Sedona, Cottonwood, and Jerome will all be represented with 16 well-known artist organizations, art from two local high schools, and six individual artists. Rounding out the event will be displays from local historical societies plus antique and classic cars.
The fabulous work of R. Blaisdell Moore, a Sedona sculptor, will be interspersed throughout the tent. His avant-garde metal work is always provocative and visually exciting and will set the tone for this first time event.
For those who want to incorporate more of the beautiful fall weather into the trip, the Old Town District winds near the Verde Valley River and sits between the beautiful Dead Horse Ranch State Park and Tuzigoot National Park -- home to ancestral Puebloans. Sycamore Canyon and Mingus Mountain are also neighboring destinations. The Mogollon Rim, a 200-mile long escarpment of sandstone and pine, crests the central region, giving it the nickname, “Rim Country.” The region offers many popular hiking and cycling routes.
