The Color of the Land Exhibit at Goldenstein Gallery

Certain places move the soul. Throughout September Goldenstein Gallery will be celebrating the majesty of the enthralling world around us with ¡°The Color of the Land¡± exhibit. This riveting exhibition features the magnificent vision of a dynamic group of artists: Landscape painters Rick Balch, DJ Hershman, Martha Slater, and Oliver Polzin. Additionally, the show will include patina-on-metal artist Lynn Rae Lowe, the glorious hand-carved fine art furniture of Eric Freyer, and spectacular hand painted silk scarves by Jacqueline Jackson. These artists deftly capture elements of the natural landscape and bring them inside. Known for his spectacular Fine Art furniture, Eric Freyer¡¯s stunning Tulip Table and Chairs are all individually designed out of hand carved quilted maple. Freyer doesn¡¯t remember a time when he wasn¡¯t working with wood. These gorgeous pieces are both elegant and dazzling to the senses. The inventor of ¡°pixelism,¡± DJ Hershman¡¯s evocative paintings capture, with texture and color, the dramatic spirit of diverse environments, each painting created with a series of dental tools. Martha Slater is known for her impressionistic, contemporary paintings. Slater¡¯s vivid use of color boldly mimics the power and beauty that she sees in the natural environment. A master artist in many styles and techniques, she combines her talents to create vibrant work in many mediums including whimsical and mystical "Story Sticks." Lynne Rae Lowe¡¯s stunning patina on metal landscapes resonate with spectacular vibrancy and translucency. "I believe in surrounding oneself with images that uplift the soul and make the spirit dance," says Lowe. She refers to her work as ¡°inner landscapes.¡± Rick Balch¡¯s work deftly captures the ever-changing light and shadow of the red rocks of Sedona. His use of light on the natural landscape mesmerizes his collectors. Oil painter Oliver Polzin¡¯s impressionistic work is influenced by the landscapes of Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Kandinsky. He is moved by the color and relationships around him and uses the most expressive colors he can conceive to express the wonder he sees. Jacqueline Jordan Jackson, whose family was one of the original pioneer families in Sedona, has worked in nearly every medium from ceramics to oils. Jackson¡¯s family donated the ¡°Art Barn¡± to the Sedona Art Center and she grew up in what now is the Apple Orchard Inn, originally built by her family. Her newest creations, vibrant hand painted silk scarves, luminously capture the brilliance of the floral images she depicts. All of her beautiful designs are inspired by nature. The public is invited to meet these engaging artists and other local artists at the opening night reception for ¡°The Color of the Land¡± on Friday, September 5, from 5-8 p.m., during the First Friday Sedona Gallery Association Art Walk. Well-loved local musicians Jack and Ray Reeves will be performing at the gallery and there will be a wine tasting by local vineyard Alcantara. This special exhibition is part of the Sedona Gallery Associations ¡°Art of Gold¡± event. Taking place September 1-7, ¡°Art of Gold¡± is the collector¡¯s opportunity! Any purchase of $500 or more is entered into a drawing to win a $1000 gift certificate for the Sedona Gallery Association¡¯s galleries. Collectors are given an additional entry for each $500 increment. Goldenstein Gallery is also pleased to announce their new Custom Carpet and Rug Design Division. They now have the ability to create stunning exceptional fine art floor coverings in a variety of mediums including Orientals, Kilims, Afgans, and Russian Soumacks. They are also able to design exquisite felted masterpieces that are created using the innovative Lomontage technique. A patented process, the Lamontage heritage is in the ancient art of felting. All of the rugs are created by hand and hundreds of colors and layers in the form of webbing are used. The stunning effect produces an extraordinary new art form for the floor. Goldenstein Gallery exclusively carries the Lamontage line in northern Arizona.
