Sedona Heritage Museum Features Traditions of the Yavapai-Apache Nation Exhibit
The Sedona Heritage Museum is hosting a special temporary exhibit loaned by the Yavapai-Apache Nation Cultural Center. Entitled “Traditions of the Yavapai-Apache Nation,” the display features examples of traditional crafts, including fine baskets, ceremonial items and an interesting stringed musical instrument.
There are historic photos and explanations of YAN history, culture and the impact of the last 150 years on YAN culture. There is also a display of artifacts collected by a Sedona collector before this became an illegal activity. The collector repatriated the items to the Nation. They are accompanied by a story of the meaning of this kind of collection to tribal members and the consequences of such collecting under current protective laws.
The new exhibit will be on display at the Museum until mid-September 2008.
The Society Historical Society operates the Sedona Heritage Museum on the Jordan Farmstead at 735 Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona. The Museum is open daily at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
