Tlaquepaque Offers a Cool Refuge for Summer Shopping
Consider Tlaquepaque, the Art and Soul of Sedona, the getaway summer shopping, entertainment and dining refuge. Shakespeare Sedona, now in its eleventh season and sponsored by Tlaquepaque, is once again pleased to offer northern Arizona the finest in professional classical theatre. The Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances will run for three consecutive weekends beginning Friday, June 27. You will howl at the hysterical farce, The Merry Wives of Windsor on Friday, followed by the political thriller, Richard II on Saturday and finally the romantic comedy The Taming of the Shrew, on Sunday. At summer’s end “Fiesta del Tlaquepaque,” a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, now in its thirty-fifth year, will take place Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The charming plazas, patios, and streets of Tlaquepaque will be dressed in a festive wash of color, music, and dancing in the spirit of Old Mexico.
The lively mariachis, the heart-pounding rhythms and beats of Flamenco dancers, and the mouth-watering tastes of Mexico will fill the day. Kids will be treated to face painting, balloon art, Yo-Yo demonstrations and the mesmerizing talents of Magical Michael Steele. This will be an unforgettable day of fun and immersion into Mexican culture for the whole family.
Tlaquepaque, home to more than 40 shops and galleries and four restaurants, and visited by more than a million tourists a year, is located at the Oak Creek Bridge just south of Highway 89A on Highway 179 and is open daily at 10 a.m.
