Shakespeare Under the Stars Presents The Taming Of The Shrew at Tlaquepaque
Shakespeare Under the Stars Presents The Taming Of The Shrew at Tlaquepaque
Shakespeare Sedona continues its 11th Anniversary Season bringing to northern Arizona the finest in professional classical theatre. This year the festival performs again in its original setting - outdoors under the stars at the historic Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village.

The 2008 Summer Season features the hysterical farce “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” followed by the political thriller “Richard II” and finally, our third production, the romantic comedy “The Taming of the Shrew.”  All shows play each weekend.

Often called Shakespeare's Sit-Com, “The Merry Wives of Windsor” is one of the merriest of Shakespeare's comedies, peopled with riotous characters and zany situations. Sir John Falstaff needs money and he needs it fast!  This is a farce that is not to be missed!

Get Out Magazine wrote: "Director Jared Sakren’s broad and joyously silly take on Shakespeare’s comedy of courtly comeuppance. The only serious thing in this staging is the quality of local acting talent on display."

“Richard II” is episode one in the famous "Wars of The Roses" saga. You won't be able to understand the rest of the story without seeing it! This politically charged thriller is a perfect entertainment for an election year. Richard II stars AriZoni Best-Actor Richard Baird as Bolingbroke (Henry IV) and Company Associate Artist Jason Barth in the title role.

The “Taming of the Shrew” is a rollicking romantic comedy from beginning to end. The tale of two misfits who find each other has pleased audiences throughout the ages as it reveals universal truths about the battle of the sexes. The play formed the basis for the musical Kiss Me Kate.

KBAQ radio said this about this new production: "A superlative cast turns this production into a rollickingly fun time." The Arizona Republic wrote: "Sakren has assembled some great talent to deliver the humor…the entire cast clicks in this production." The Tribune wrote: "A perfect gem of a thing that finds new treasures, and major laughs, in the classic battle of the sexes."

This year's company features many returning favorites along with a host of newcomers. Actors include Peter Good, Amanda Schaar, Richard Baird, Jason Barth, Andi Watson, Jim Coates, Jim Porter, Chad Krolczyk, Nathalie Cadieux, Sarah Wolter, Mitchell Wyatt, and Sandy Elias. Designers include Karin Beatty, Set Designer Patrick Walsh, resident lighting designer Paul Black, and resident composer Richard Jennings.

Each fully professional production takes place at the Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. Tickets are $25 per single ticket. Discounts are available for Season Tickets and groups. Discount information and show descriptions are available on the Shakespeare Sedona website. Dinner and theatre packages are also available.
