Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Show
Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Show
There will be several fine art painters showing at the Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Show on May 3 and 4. Among them are Philonese Baisden, Terri Dennis, James "Peaches" Lavett, Joe Robertson, Roy Walters, Larry Ashkie, Virgil Nez, Miguel Camerena, Larry Beck, and Mike Bernhardt.

Mike Bernhardt has been representing the copper art wall pieces of Glenn Hines for over 15 years. Hines has been doing this artwork and showing it in the area and his pieces have gotten to be truly monumental. Not only does he do large framed pieces, but he also does triptychs, able to fill up a large wall are. Hines uses patinas and tooling methods in his work and most of them are beautifully matted and framed. He is a fairly recent resident of Dewey, moving up from the valley several years ago. Bernhardt has also begun doing his own copper work and showing it as well. His work consists of familiar landscapes, mostly of Sedona rock formations and pots, and is completely different from Glenn's southwest designs.

Philonese Baisden has spirit dolls which are multi media, some with long fringed and painted costumes. She also does wall hangings with intricate painted designs and long fringes which look like antique Native American war shirts. All her work is very exciting with an ethnic feeling and she hails from Black Canyon City.

Roy Walters, Virgil Nez and Larry Ashkie
are all Native American painters. They are award winners and have very different styles. Walters' work is very bold and brightly colored. Ashkie's work is abstract and impressionistic with softer colors and Nez does colorful paintings using a pointillism technique.

Joe Robertson does wildlife and western scratchboard art and some, using the same technique, on framed rock. His work is mostly black and white, but he has also been doing oil painting of landscapes. Robertson is from Prescott and was president of the Mountain Artist Guild for several years.

Miguel Camerena is represented by Tom Hill who also shows Greg Gowens work in copper. Camerena does impressionistic large scale paintings with lots of action. Camerena and Hill are from Cave Creek.

Terri Dennis
has paintings on sculptures. The sculptures are unique wall art and some are very brightly colored abstract pieces while others are southwest images using browns and blacks. She is currently showing new work and does custom pieces as well. Dennis lives in the area and moved up here from the valley a couple of years ago. She has won Best of Show at Indio.

James "Peaches" Lavett, from Scottsdale, does large impressionistic and abstract paintings. Larry Beck is from Chino Valley and he has very brightly colored representations of pictograhs and rock art which is finely framed and matted. His work has also won numerous Best of Show awards at many different shows over the years.

In addition to the painters, the show will include jewelry, pottery, wood furniture, leather, sculpture, candles, stone bowls, wood pens, fused glass, photography, clothing, spa products and soaps, and more.  There will be Spanish guitar music and CD's, and delicious bread bowls to enjoy while looking at the art.

Surrounded by beautiful red rock scenery, Bell Rock Plaza is centrally located in the Village of Oak Creek - Gateway to Sedona. The Bell Rock Plaza Art and Craft Shows are an excellent introduction to the Sedona art scene with many of Sedona's hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and shopping close by.
