Flowers and Gardens are the theme in Jerome as First Saturday Art Walk and the Jerome Garden Tour share the date.

Jerome First Saturday Art Walk has become the best Saturday activity in the Verde Valley ¨C at least according to many art lovers who are slowly savoring each section of this thriving art community. There is so much to see that it is impossible to visit everything in one walk. Make a night of it on May 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. Have dinner at one of the great restaurants or spend the night at a local B and B. With gallery openings, open studios, live music all through the town and delicious treats at most stops, this is one spring night that will delight.
Stahlkraft Gallery is pleased to present local artist Jack Blum as the exclusive Featured Artist in May. Blum¡¯s intricate compositions of exquisite woods were featured in Kudos recently. The artist uses purple heartwood, ebony, maple and curly sycamore to recreate ancient Anasazi and Sinaguan pottery patterns. Beautiful samples of segmental wood bowls and intarsia will be displayed during the month and the artist will be present during the Jerome Art Walk.
During your Garden Tour and Art Walk experience, make sure to stop by and see the jewelry created by Jerome's jewelry artist, Rick Hernandez and his 16 year old son Ricky. Join the gallery for some festive hors d¡¯oerves in an early Celebration of Cinco De Mayo.
The Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery will be featuring the work of beloved local photographer and total weirdo, Patrick Lincoln. Lincoln, a Jerome resident, has led an interesting life ranging from registered nurse to cowpuncher and poet, just to name a few of his incarnations. As you can imagine, he has quite a number of tall tales to share. His computer-altered photographs feature Jerome scenes, western landscapes, as well as interesting figure studies and objects in detail. Lincoln has a vast following regionally and nationally and this show promises to be a great one.
Pura Vida Gallery will be hosting a showing of plein air painter Dawn Sutherland¡¯s newest work. This show, titled ¡°Canyons,¡± highlights Sutherland¡¯s most recent oil paintings of some of the Verde Valley¡¯s most secretive and inaccessible areas. Sutherland has spent countless hours hiking these canyons and capturing their beauty in her paintings.
Within just a few short years, Sutherland¡¯s plein air paintings have captured the attention of avid collectors who treasure the beauty of the desert Southwest landscape. Her paintings express the timelessness of the red rocks, the patience of the desert, and the surprise of brilliant flowers that appear in this arid climate. Her landscape paintings are known for their exceptional ability to capture light within the shadows, providing the viewer with a sense of being in the space, and communicating the warmth and solidity of the formations. Sutherland will be on hand from 5-8 p.m., on the evening of the Art Walk to discuss her work. In addition, Pura Vida Gallery will host its infamous champagne and chocolate reception.
Gallery 527 is welcoming spring and celebrating being on the garden tour with the lovely sculpture garden. Libby MacKinney will be on hand with incredible new canvases with flower, bird and spring themes. Special prices will be in effect for this show so if you have loved MacKinney¡¯s amazing roosters and fruit, this is a real opportunity to acquire a large canvas at a very attractive price. Dave Rentz will be playing from 5-8 p.m., and food and wine will be served.
And there is news from the Old Jerome High School. Robin Anderson has been taking advantage of the mild spring weather and painting en plein air. The views of Jerome, north, south, east, and west, all from the vantage point of the Flatiron District will be a spectacular collection shown for the first time.
Bear, spending half the time with his hands in the soil and the rest with his hands in pigment, has been liberated by the spring colors, along with fellow painter, Mark Hemleben. The Old Jerome High School is humming with color and creativity that reflects the world outside. Janie Anderson, with her lively animals animated out of clay, always provides a delightful pit stop during the Art Walk. Meanwhile fiber artist Vicki Day has turned her attention to adorning the canine darlings with collars that would charm a King Charles. All this and more, the Old Jerome High School is a ¡®don¡¯t miss¡¯ stop.
