The Institute of EcoTourism, at Los Abrigados Resort and Spa, offers diverse activities to the public and resort visitors, including vortex information with directions to Sedona’s most powerful sites, viewing the night skies, Native storytelling with Brian Benally, and much more. MONDAY GEOLOGY OF THE RED ROCKS: Travel millions of years into the past & discover how the environment expressed itself in rock and minerals with geologist Howard Green. 10:15 – 10:45am By donation. Cancelled: SCIENTIFIC VORTEX INFO: The scientific and spiritual explanation of vortexes, with directions to Sedona’s most powerful sites. MIT trained scientist, Pete Sanders. 1 – 2:15 pm ILX Guests Free. Other, $15 per person. RECONNECT WITH THE EARTH: Ways to heal the earth and our selves. Gain insight on feeling the pulse of the earth and our natural connection. With local guide JD Allen. 4 – 5:15pm ILX Guests Free. Other, $15 per person. SEDONA BY STARLIGHT: View the night skies and learn the story of the stars and planets with astronomer Dennis Young. 90 minutes. Dennis will meet you in the Los Abrigados lobby at 6:45 pm ILX Guests $20. Other, $25. Call Ahead! – Time varies due to weather and nightfall. TUESDAY A QUIET WALK: Mary Dwyer presents the natural world as an educator and healer. Experience and improve your awareness of the living earth, reduce stress and discuss the latest research and health benefits of walking in nature. An easy 15 minute walk and short journaling activity. 10:30 – 11:30 am. By donation. DESERT WILDLIFE: Maggie Mitchell presents Sedona Wildlife. Learn about habitats, behaviors and often, misunderstood characteristics. This presentation will answer your wildlife questions and may even open you up to seeing wildlife in a whole new way. 3:30-4:30pm By donation. NATIVE STORYTELLING: Brian Benally (Navajo/Dine), is a world renowned historian and educator born and raised on the Navajo reservation. Educated in two worlds, he blends both the culture of his people along with western society, in a very unique manner. 6 – 7pm By donation. WEDNESDAY RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES: Join Mason Rumney in a discussion of renewable energy including solar/wind sources and the most passive construction designs. Learn to live “off the grid” by taking steps to live sustainably. 11am to 12 pm. By donation. WORLD PEACE MEDITATION: with M.I.T. trained scientist Pete Sanders and/or Suzanne Holt of the Department of Peace. Learn meditation techniques and all about the Department of Peace. 4:30 – 5pm Free to all. JOURNEY’S OF THE HEART: Story – Poetry & Nature Voices with Jesse Kalu. “If you ever spent quiet time in the vast empty space of the southwestern desert, you will understand the essence of Jesse Kalu’s meditative journey.” Michael Silveria – Whole Life Times. 6 – 7pm Free to all. THURSDAY Cancelled: THE POWER OF DESERT PLANTS: Join Herbalist and the Institute of EcoTourism Executive Director, Diane Dearmore for an introduction to the wild native plants of Sedona Meet at the Institute of EcoTourism courtyard for a high desert walk. Hiking shoes and attire required. 8:30 - 9:30 am By donation. WILKASARA’ (Sacred Corn): Incan medicine man Wachan Baiyoperak and his family bring to life the ancient ways of the Inca and power of Macchu Picchu in this can't miss presentation. Learn about the natural medicines, ceremonies and music that have been used for thousands of years in the Andes of Peru. 6 – 7pm By donation. The Institute of EcoTourism is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, with exhibits, reading room, interactive children’s room, demonstration garden, and multi media Sinagua Theatre, with eco-friendly staff who welcome you to visit, participate and evaluate.
