Goldenstein Gallery debuts “The Wild,” a stunning show that reveals the powerful instinctual quality that art, of many mediums, has to provoke a vivid response. This enthralling exhibition features the untamed art of Ernst Gruler and Jourdan Dern, and Barbara Brown three artists who deftly capture elements of nature and bring them into our world. The diversity of mediums highlighted - fine art furniture, paintings and sculpture - enhance any environment helping to create a very unique and special space.
Gruler has created functional art in masterful pieces that come from years as a successful model maker and high-end cabinet-maker for clients in New York City. Known for his spectacular high style tables, Gruler will be debuting “Let There be Light,” a series of lamps designed to artistically illuminate interiors. A spectacular combination of technical mastery and creative design is evident in everything the contemporary furniture artist creates. Over the years, he has developed a unique fabrication process, which involves bending wood laminates into architectural forms that look more like functional sculpture than traditional furniture. However, the chairs, tables, pedestals and lamps are not only beautiful designs, but are functional and durable as well. A number of Gruler’s paintings will also be featured.
Dern’s evocative acrylic paintings on clayboard capture the dramatic spirit of the diverse high desert wildlife and environment. Her work captivates collectors with its stunning detail that is complimented with abstraction. She is inspired by the high desert environment and has found that it stimulates emotions that she translates into vivid colors, strokes and textures. The result is mesmerizing. When viewing her work it is almost as if her wildlife depictions “leap off of the canvas.”
Brown is heralded for whimsical yet realistic bronze sculpture. Her Javalina sculpture was used for the celebrated Javalinas on Parade, named an Arizona Treasure by Governor Janet Napolitano and recently honored by Keep Sedona Beautiful. Her first bronze sculpture was purchased by Hillside Marketplace in Sedona and is permanently installed in a pond in their courtyard. Her subject matter leans toward fantasy and the animal kingdom, beginning with her giant frog on lily pads, to angels, dragons, ravens, and iavelina. One life-size edition of the mother and baby bronze was purchased by the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks and is displayed in uptown Sedona as a piggy bank.
