Sedona Public Library Features Dorothy Valcarcel in Weekly Author Series
Sedona Public Library Features Dorothy Valcarcel in Weekly Author Series
As part of the 2008 50th Anniversary Sedona Public Library Celebration weekly Author Series, Dorothy Valcarcel will be discussing her latest book, The Man Who Loved Women on Good Friday at the library. The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Si Birch Community Room. Copies of Ms. Valcarcel's book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.

The Man Who Loved Women by Dorothy Valcarcel
, released this past year, is a collection of true stories about 18 New Testament women and the only Man who could fulfill their every need. That Man is Jesus.

During her presentation Ms. Valcarcel will focus on two New Testament women highlighted in her book, The Man Who Loved Women women who have become prominent figures in popular culture in recent years.

First you'll meet Claudia Procula, the wife of Pilate
, or "The Compromised Woman" as Dorothy describes her in The Man Who Loved Women. Though there is little mention of Claudia Procula in the Scriptures, Jesus' impact on her life is one of the most important lessons in the Bible.

Then you'll meet Mary Magdalene
, or "The Lonely Woman" as Dorothy describes her in the book. We have all felt loneliness in one form or another, but Mary's relationship with Jesus proves we are never alone. This part of Dorothy's presentation promises to be especially intriguing at a time when both religious and popular culture perceptions of Mary Magdalene do not coincide with the Scriptural account of her life.

Dorothy Valcarcel is an Arizona native. Both she and her father were born in Tempe and the family often camped in Oak Creek Canyon. Though she spent most of her childhood growing up in California, Dorothy always longed to return to the red rock community.

After graduating from college, Dorothy worked as a registered nurse, but 25 years ago she made a career change when she and her husband, Jim, opened West Coast Direct Response, an advertising agency specializing in fundraising campaigns for charitable organizations.

Today, Dorothy and Jim are proud to call Sedona home, where they have lived for the past 7 years. It's here that Dorothy wrote The Man Who Loved Women and continues her work for non-profits. Dorothy is also the Vice President of the board for the Sedona Arts Center.
