Chamber Music Sedona Presents the R. Carlos Nakai Trio
The R. Carlos Nakai Trio features Grammy nominated Native American Flutist R. Carlos Nakai, guitarist, luthier and composer William Eaton, and percussionist Will Clipman.
The trio brings together the soaring melodies of R. Carlos Nakai’s Native American flute, the vibrant tones of William Eaton's lyraharp guitar, and the subtle pulse of Will Clipman's world beat percussion. The Trio's Canyon Records CD Feather, Stone, and Light was PULSE!'s pick for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and received the distinguished Billboard Magazine Critic's Choice listing. Focus Magazine said that the trio produces, “a serene release that rightly deserves its moment of undivided attention."
Together the three men bring forth a music born in the Sonoran desert and colored by the sounds of the world. Together they create a music which is at once ethereal and earthy: like the airborne feather, it arises out of improvisation ... like stone forming in the molten heart of the planet, it moves with patient certainty toward structure ... and like light, it quickens and enlivens what it touches.
The Trio will perform a variety of works including selections from Feather, Stone, and Light a musical trialogue born and rooted in the Sonoran desert and colored by the sounds of the whole world.
The Clipman, Eaton, Nakai Trio, aka the "Wilde Boys," is a summit meeting of master musicians. From its inception, this trio has been committed to improvisation - the fine art of crafting music directly from the heart and through composing. The ancient melodies of Nakai's Native American cedar flutes are enveloped in the sophisticated harmonic and chordal timbres of Eaton's uniquely handcrafted multi-stringed instruments. Both musicians are imbued with a fluid pulse arriving out of Clipman's pan-global percussion.
