Jazz a la Mode Presents Wintersongs
at Canyon Moon Theatre

Take a break from the hectic holiday rush and bring the family to a lovely evening of Wintersongs. Jazz a la Mode is a group founded by Frankie and Rosemary Chavez. Joining them for this special evening will be pianist-singer Steve Sandner. Frankie is an accomplished drummer who has performed and recorded with Lionel Hampton, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Gerald Wilson, Larry Carlton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Willie Bobo and Buddy Collete, to name a few. A child prodigy at 11, he toured with Lionel Hampton as a featured soloist. He introduced Karen Carpenter to the art of playing drums and his friend and mentor was world-renowned drummer, Buddy Rich. Rosemary has performed with numerous recording and performance artists including three featured solos on the movie soundtrack for ROAR, starring actresses Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith. Rosemary was also the featured vocalist on the American Voices CD written by award-winning Terence P. Minogue. She began singing at three years of age. While a student at Luther College, she toured internationally with the Nordic Choir. Her beautiful voice has earned her the nickname "Pipes." Steve Sandner grew up listening to the piano players of his father's generation--Mel Powell, Teddy Wilson, Nat Cole, Oscar Peterson--and the blues singers--Joe Williams, Louis Jordan, Jimmy Witherspoon and, of course, Sinatra. His repertoire includes a vast array of jazz and blues standards and originals. He has toured internationally and recorded five CDs. Enjoy an evening of cool jazz, blues and Wintersongs at Canyon Moon Theatre, 6601 Hwy. 179, in Oak Creek Factory Outlets, Village of Oak Creek at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children and may be purchased by calling 1-800-838-3006; at Clothing Reflections in Bashas' Center, West Sedona; Market Place Cafe or Rycus Corners in the Village of Oak Creek or online www.canyonmoontheatre.org. Market Place Cafe is giving a 15 percent dinner discount the night of the concert to anyone who brings a ticket for this concert. The box office opens at 5:30 p.m. Season X is sponsored by the Marketplace Cafe and supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Sedona Arts and Culture Commission. |
