Institute of EcoTourism Presents A Cowboy Christmas
Come one, come all, gather round the campfire at the Institute of Ecotourism on Friday, December 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for “A Cowboy Christmas.”
Experience how Sedona’s early cowboys lived day to day through a collaborative presentation by Jack Tinnell, Lois Tinnell and Gene Kurz alias Rock Holliday.
“This presentation is special and authentic. Jack, Lois and Rock bring their passion of history alive for everyone to experience.” states Kurt Raczynski,
Site Manager of the Institute of Ecotourism. “They are able to teach things about cowboy life that most of us have never thought of. This presentation offers a deeper appreciation for our early culture.” Free cookies, hot apple cider and infamous cowboy coffee will be served.
The trio will offer hands-on demonstrations of the “tools of the trade” bringing life to the way of the cowboys and the frontier. After spending twelve years in law enforcement, Jack Tinnell’s passion for the American West and Midwest got the best of him. Jack earned a masters degree in social history and spent another decade directing living history presentations in Iowa and Kansas. He shares his cowboy passion with others as a guide at Red Rock Jeep Tours.
Lois and Jack met in college sharing a love for history. Lois Tinnell grew up on a farm in Iowa valuing natural ways of living and still chooses to live in harmony with the earth. Together the Tinnell’s share their passion of history and pioneer life with all who are interested.
Gene Kurz, alias Rock Holliday, since moving to Arizona five years ago has appeared in numerous cowboy re-enactments in Tombstone Arizona and is featured in the HBO Deadwood series on television. Originally from Michigan, Rock has been drawn to the cowboy way of life since he was a boy.
The Tinnell’s and Rock Holliday regularly share their knowledge of history and culture of the pioneer west at the Institute of Ecotourism located at 91 Portal Lane in Sedona. For more information on A Cowboy Christmas call 928-282-2720 or visit www.ioet.org.
