NAU Community Dance Academy
The current NAU Community Music and Dance Academy Dance Division was established in 1980 when Maureen Price first introduced the Royal Academy of Dancing training system to Flagstaff. In 1990, with the help of the Preparatory School of Music under the direction of Nadine Bean, the classes moved into the Department of Dance at NAU and were used as a training ground for Dance Education students. As the Classical Ballet program developed local students transferred into dance majors at various universities, joined both ballet and modern professional dance companies, the Rockettes, and opened their own dance studios. The NAU Academy is now a branch of the NAU School of Music and offers certified dance education through the Royal Academy of Dance to students from across northern Arizona.
Flagstaff Children’s Chorale
The Children's Chorale of Flagstaff, established in 1997, is a treble choir for children in grades three through twelve. The mission of the Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff is to provide music education, a variety of performance opportunities and music enrichment activities under professional choral direction. The Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff’s vision is to create a foundation for a life-long involvement with music.
The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra
The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra (FSO), the premier regional symphony orchestra in Northern Arizona, is in its 58th season. Few communities the size of Flagstaff enjoy a symphony orchestra of the quality and caliber of the FSO. Seven concerts from September through April form the core of the Symphony's season, with additional Young People's Concerts for children from Flagstaff and its surrounding communities, and a Lollipop concert in December for families with young children. Regular concerts are held in 1500-seat Ardrey Auditorium on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit corporation, organized under Article 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code, and is governed by a 31-member Board of Directors. The FSO is supported by two auxiliary organizations, The Flagstaff Symphony Guild and the Sedona Flagstaff Symphony League, both of which function largely as fundraising arms of the organization.
