August 6th - 8th: A visit to the Navajo Festival is like traveling to the Navajo Nation. An authentic presentation of the Navajo "Beauty Way" philosophy of living in harmony is offered by more than 55 Navajo artists, storytellers, and cultural interpreters from many clans.
Big-Time Savings at Lanning and Turquoise Tortoise Galleries
August 6th - 8th: Sedona's upcoming "1st Friday Gallery Tour" on August 6, from 5-8 p.m., offers a celebration of something unprecedented at two prestigious galleries. Both Lanning Gallery and Turquoise Tortoise Gallery will have opened their doors that morning at 10 a.m., to begin a weekend of 40, 50 and 60 percent savings on a wide variety of select items; by Sunday, August 8, at 5 p.m., it will all be over.
August 7th: A warm and sultry night filled with art, music and gallery hopping is in store for First Saturday Art Walk in Jerome. Visit 25 galleries and studios throughout this charming mountain town from 5:00-8:00PM. A free shuttle runs during the walk, from the newest studios at The Old Jerome High School up to Main Street and the gallery of Patrick Lincoln and Made in Jerome ceramics.
August 7th: Gallery 527 brings back the yearly August show titled 'Dog Days f Summer.' The show opens on during First Saturday Jerome Art Walk. From 5:00 to 8:00 PM, meet the talented artists, enjoy wine and refreshments as well as live music.
Take a Hike with the Biggest Losers at Sedona Rouge Hotel
August 19th - 21st: Get moving with TV stars Biggest Losers, Bill and Jim Germanakos, at one of the world's best hotels, the Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa, in one of the world's best destinations, Sedona, Arizona. Gigi Rock Productions and Bill Germanakos have partnered to present an adventure of a lifetime hosting three days of extreme motivation with Biggest Losers who will share their personal stories with you.
August 21st: The Heavenly J's, a rock opera, will perform at Tlaquepaque in Plaza de la Fuente on Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Experience the incarnations of Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Jim Croce, and other special guest appearances.
Through August 29th: Geologists who study ordinary layers of limestone, sandstone, and shale in the high desert country of the Colorado Plateau are able to describe the ancient environments that once existed in this region and how those environments evolved. Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau, a new exhibit at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, takes visitors on a geologic journey of discovery with Dr. Ron Blakey and Wayne Ranney, map maker and author, respectively, of their new book by the same title.
Family-Time Adventure Aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad
Through August 30th: Families winding down the summer and getting kids excited about school again can be a challenge. Fortunately, there's still plenty of opportunity to spend quality time together. September 4th - 6th: This street festival includes free music and entertainment, childrens activities, and sidewalk sales in numerous locations along Hwy 89A and Hwy 179.
September Get Away Sedona's Fiesta del Tlaquepaque
September 11th: The 37th annual Fiesta del Tlaquepaque, celebrating Mexican Independence Day will take place Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. The popular late summer, family-friendly getaway draws visitors from all over the Southwest and the Valley. Admission is free and free shuttle service is available.
Artist, Poet, Mythical Archaeologist, Ritual Clown, and Trickster Exhibit at MNA
Through September 12th: It is with honor and celebration that the Museum of Northern Arizona celebrates Walking in Harmony: The Life and Work of Lomawywesa, Michael Kabotie. Kabotie (1942–2009) was a longtime friend and collaborator at MNA. This exhibit of Kabotie's innovative, reflective, and spiritual paintings, prints, jewelry, and poetry runs through Sunday, September 12.
September 24th - September 25th: Fifth Annual State of the Art at Tlaquepaque. Plan your September get-away to Sedona and enjoy fabulous hot jazz and cool art at Tlaquepaque, the Art and Soul of Sedona.
October 2nd: This October will herald the "re-jazzination"of a very special Arizona tradition. After taking a year off in 2009, the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Fall Festival will be held Saturday, October 2, on the lush grounds of Poco Diablo Resort. To make the internationally-acclaimed fall festival even more relevant and electrifying, SJOR is adding an exciting twist this year, by expanding the musical line up to include blues and R&B. In fact, today the organization is proud to announce that this year's lineup will include: Maysa, Alfredo Rodriguez, Homemade Jamz Blues Band, Craig Chaquico and Dennis Rowland.
Museum of Northern Arizona Exhibits Ed Mell Paintings of the New west
Through October 31st: The innovative paintings and sculptures of Phoenix artist Ed Mell depict majestic panoramas of the desert Southwest and the nuances of its flora and fauna. Mell uses contrasting light and shadow, deep space, and colors to accentuate his subject and capture ephemeral moments in nature. "Ed Mel l—Paintings of the New West" a new exhibit at the Museum of Northern Arizona is the result of a partnership between MNA and the Tucson Museum of Art and will show through October 31. The exhibit highlights 38 Ed Mell paintings and sculptures from 1990 to 2009.
November 26th – December 5th: An exciting event opens at this unique shopping complex on Friday - The Festival of Trees. Area artists and galleries will have over 30 Christmas trees fully decorated in fun and exquisite ways to entice the guests of Tlaquepaque.
December 11th: With 6,000 golden-hued luminarias that everyone gets to light, fabulous family entertainment from traditional Christmas favorites to mariachis and the breathtaking harmonies of the River of Life Tabernacle Choir, Santa visits, hot cider and more, the Festival of Lights is an event for the whole family.
